Chernobyl is a abandoned city in the restricted Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in northern Ukraine. The city was evacuated in 1986 due to the explosion of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, located 14.5 kilometers northwest of the city. The city is mostly uninhabited today, except for a small number of people. Prior to the evacuation of the city, in had a population of about 14,000 people. It now has a population of approximately 500.
